Mealtimes

All food will be freshly cooked at nursery. Menus have been carefully planned to meet the nutritional requirements of children and guidance from the Children's Food Trust has guided menu planning. Menus will be published in due course.

Mealtimes are an important time of day for children. Within the baby room the mealtime routine will be dictated by the individual needs of the babies themselves. Some babies may be fed in highchairs whilst others may sit at a table to eat. Some babies may still be bottle fed or feeding mothers may choose to come in to nursery to breast feed.

Within the toddler room children will eat in their key groups with their key practitioners, the same applies with children in preschool.

Preschool children will be expected to serve themselves from choices made available on their tables. Staff will support children to make healthy choices, e.g., to choose a balanced meal consisting of carbohydrates, protein and vegetables. Children in the preschool will eat from china plates and drink from glasses at all mealtimes, unless a risk assessments informs us otherwise. Toddlers and babies will use plastic plates and beakers.

Staff Training & Development

Mill House Day Nursery employs qualified early years practitioners who have experience and knowledge in providing high quality care and education for babies, toddlers and children. Practitioners employed by Mill House are expected to hold an up to-date record of Continual Professional Development (CPD) which will show their commitment to continually developing their knowledge, skills and practice.

Practitioners are expected to reflect on their own practice and to work in partnership with managers and supervisors to identify their own training needs; practitioners receive regular and ongoing supervision as part of their role within Mill House which feeds into an ongoing programme of training and development for all staff members.

Training Opportunities

A range of training opportunities will be provided for all staff. These opportunities will include: On the job training with a mentor; day release to attend short courses and workshops; on-line training; reading and research opportunities; opportunities to engage with further and higher education; In-Service Training (INSET).

INSET

Mill House Day Nursery will close for 2 days per year in order to provide team training opportunities for practitioners. These are important training opportunities which enable the team to work together to develop whole team knowledge and skills. INSET is invaluable for improving knowledge, skills and practice and also for developing team morale. INSET days are published annually in advance and they are published on our website and on parent noticeboards.

All nursery closure dates have been factored into our fee structure and all parents are expected to support staff training and development.
